Antifoam Addition Rate Calculation
At Basildon Chemicals we are aware that the consumers of today are concerned about how the chemicals we use in our daily lives impact upon the environment. Two of the most critical issues in this debate are how these chemicals affect the environment and how persistent in the environment they will be.

If the effect of 10 ppm is acceptable, the trial can be continued with lower levels of antifoam until a low level that still gives acceptable performance is found. The opposite of course can also be true for certain processes where more antifoam will be required to produce sufficient defoaming.
Please use the following calculation:
(ppm silicone) x (Amount of Solution to be Defoamed 1)
= Antifoam to be Added1
(% Active Ingredient in Foam Control Agent 2) x (10,000)
1 In Litres
2 Insert “10” for 10 percent active etc.
Please note that FDA
regulations state that polydimethylsiloxane addition is not permitted in
milk
